Bay Area style Thrashers UNITED, named after the JUDAS PRIEST anthem, was found in 1981 and operated primarily as a JUDAS PRIEST cover band for many years. The act finally got around to releasing original material with February 1985s Destroy Metal EP, capitalized on in December 1986 by a further effort Beast Dominate. UNITED would also contribute the track Emergency Dominate to a compilation album.

The band would re-enlist a former member, guitarist Shingo Ohtani, from his interim act EMPEROR in 1990. During October of 1990 UNITED signed a deal with the Howling Bull Entertainment label, the first fruits of which was the Bloody But Unbowed album.
