A Minneapolis based Metal band, THE COUP DE GRACE blended Thrash Metal with twin guitar British 70s Hard Rock influences and melodies. Their 1990 eponymous debut, which featured a line up of frontman James ‘Jim’ Mercerle, guitarist Steve Wresh, bassist Kurt Gillespie and drummer Chris Westling, would be produced by none other than Dave Pirner of SOUL ASYLUM. Vocalist / guitarist James Mecherle would later join the band of controversial Rock artist ANDREW W.K.
