Who is Sam Alex? Well, between 1985 and 1987 he was the frontman of the German band Avalon before he founded his own band Sheela in 1988. Three years later he got together with a group of young musicians under the name of Tokyo Rose. Their two albums, “Dream Dancer” (1992) and “Fear The Winter” (1994), were produced at Sky Studios in Munich and that’s where Sam was introduced to guitarist and producer Bobby Altvater (known from Affair).Tokyo Rose’s success was limited to the UK and the band broke up in 1995.Now there’s “Pieces”, Alex’s first full solo album featuring 11 songs, of which 8 are written or co-written by Bobby Altvater. Anyone who followed Bobby’s career knows that he’s synonymous with quality and that shows here once again. Together with a couple of covers (“Dancing With Tears In My Eyes” and “Magic Breeze”), “Pieces” is filled with good quality songs, performed and produced in the way they should be. Although Alex is not breathtaking, his voice is well in shape and as a performer he certainly discharges his duty.
