Judie Tzuke has enjoyed a long, if sometimes frustrating career in the music business. I say frustrating because on a number of occasions it seemed that just as she was about to make the leap into the big time, either management or record company problems prevented her from doing so. It is also doubly frustrating in that by and large, the material Judie writes and produces is excellent.
These two albums come from 1984 (The Cat Is Out) and 1992 (Wonderland). Both are excellent additions to the Judie Tzuke catalogue and both contain bonus tracks and sleeve notes covering Judie's career up to the present. It's hard to pick favourite tracks as most are up to the high standard we've come to expect from her and apart from a very 80's production on The Cat Is Out, both albums sound incredibly fresh.
If I have to choose favourite tracks - How Sweet It Is, Who Do You Really Love and the single lifted originally from the album You, are favourites from The Cat Is Out. And from Wonderland, the title track, Sara's Gone On A Ship (featuring violinist Nigel Kennedy) and I Can Read Books, featuring long-time fan Brian May, from Queen on guitar still sound good some ten years on.
Judie should have a new album sometime in the summer 2001 - however these re-issues provide you with a perfect opportunity to bring your Judie Tzuke collection up to date. |
